Backstory

On the planet of Corellia, in Coronet City near the Juni Street Station lived the Solborne family. Father Jadel, mother Sevrina and son Locke.

Jadel spent years in the employ of the Empire retiring as a SCAR Trooper. Being a specialized and dangerous job, Jadel was paid very well. Jadel attained the rank of Sergeant and led many recon missions for the Empire. Given the level of autonomy granted to these units, Jadel ran many missions that dealt with unsavory individuals. Making many connections and obtaining many valuable items by questionable means, Jadel was by most people's account a very rich man. One such connection involved a being called Yssk.

Yssk was a notorious Trandoshan with interests in drug running, weapons, high stakes gambling, human trafficking and virtually every other seedy business one could think of. Human trafficking was a favorite of his as he enjoyed watching human females beg and plead for their lives.

During one 'recon' mission, based on bad intel, Jadel's team breached a Yssk safe house thinking it was a rebel arms depot. After some brief but unsuccessful resistance by Yssk's guards, Jadel realized that he and his team interrupted Yssk in the middle of evaluating a large group of human females. There were dozens of women being held captive in small backrooms. Part of standard imperial protocol stated that in cases of the recovery of 'live' assets, a name and home planet must be entered into the Imperial database for further processing and that job fell to Jadel. One by one the women were cataloged in a cold impersonal manner until Jadel saw Sevrina.

Sevrina was a stunning beautiful woman. Jadel was frozen in awe of her when she approached the makeshift desk he was using to catalog the women. He was so frozen in action, one his guards had to nudge him with the butt of his blaster to break the spell of her beauty. When asked how she ended up with Yssk, Sevrina explained that she was answering an ad for a local beauty contest. This turned out to be nothing more than a thinly designed plot to captured attractive human females. After getting off the ship she was herded into one of those backrooms .... that's all she knew. Jadel made a 'personal note' in her profile allowing him to keep track of her whereabouts.

As it turns out there was a significant bounty for the live capture of Yssk. So significant that the Empire awarded Jadel a small house on Corellia as well as a very small slice of the actual reward. The house was in Coronet City near the Juni Street Station. After the ceremony, he found Sevrina in the Imperial database and swept her off her feet. He spent thousands of credits on expensive clothes, restaurants and trips to extoic planets. After a whirlwind romance, Jadel and Sevrina were married and Sevrina soon became pregnant. Sevrina gave birth to Locke Solborne under difficult circumstances. Internal damage to Sevrina's system prevented her from having other children.

Jadel continued to work for Empire leaving Sevrina alone to raise Locke. He retired suddenly telling his wife than he had gotten injured on a mission and he no longer qualifies for field work. Being a desk officer was not going to work for Jadel so retirement was really the only option. At first living at home suited Jadel. He reserved one room as his 'den' (mancave) and they lived a reasonable life comfortably. Over the coming months Jadel became more and more reclusive spending nearly the entire day in his den. Then money started to become scarce. Meals became smaller, no new clothes were bought. Sevrina was confused about where the money was going. Jadel locked the den and forbid Sevrina and Locke from going in there.

Sevrina approached Jadel about getting a job. Jadel became furious and told her that he was the bread winner, and no wife of a SCAR trooper was going to degrade herself by taking a menial job. After this incident, things got a bit better. A bit more money came in. He bought Sevrina new clothes and small repulsorlift bike for Locke. However as time wore on, the family slipped back into a meager living standard.

Through it all the one constant was the way Sevrina held the house together especially her cooking. Her cooking was exceptional. She would take the little food they could afford and make amazing tasting dishes. Never the same meal twice, it was the thing that Locke always looked forward to. He even began to help her in the kitchen. Learning how to prep and cook with her. They bonded very deeply over the cooking as his father spent countless hours in the den ignoring them both.

After Locke's 18th birthday, Sevrina died from conditions related to her difficult child birth. After an extended grieving period, Locke informed his father that he was moving out. Jadel became furious complaining about "Who is going to feed me?". Locke then insisted you see what's inside his den. A very vocal argument ensured with Locke threatening to walk out. Jadel relented and showed Locke his den. Inside he found a network of computers with more gambling sites than he knew existed. Only now did he realize where all of his father's money was going. His father was in debt to dozens of low-life individuals both local and over the holonet. Locke took to the streets.

Learning through the school of hard knocks, Locke learned the seedy streets near the casino. He learned how to gamble and (more importantly) how not to gamble from many street-living degenerates. In return they received home cooked food. Outrageously good home cooked food. From humble beginnings he amassed a sizeable number of credits. Constantly learning during up and down periods he became a familiar face in the nearby casinos. Soon, casinos starting comping his room and food in order to get him to stay. Never forgetting his street 'friends', eventually Locke came into information about bigger betting, loan sharks and local mafias.

Through many months of information gathering, threats, extortion and continued smart gambling, Locke eventually cleared all of his fathers debt. During this time, he had run into Monty and done a small job or two to help him out in a pinch.

After the payoffs, he had 500 credits to his name. He called Monty and asked if he had any work to do. Monty directed him to Jaadarn and paid for his passage.

Before leaving his father Locke told him that he was clear from debt and that he needed to something to do something else than gambling. "Try cooking" were the last words he said before walking out of the house and getting on a ship for Jaadarn.
